Career Highlights:

Jacquelyn Arcy is an assistant professor of new media in the Department of Communication. Her research focuses on television studies, digital media and culture, media industries, and feminist media studies. She has published articles in Communication, Culture, and Critique, Celebrity Studies, and Feminist Media Studies, and is currently working on a book titled "Feminized Convergence: Women's Work in the Digital Age."

What do you want your students to take away from class?

In COMM 708: Critical Media Studies, students will learn about the major schools of academic thought and the methodologies used in the field of media studies including textual analysis, production analysis, and reception analysis. By the end of the semester, students will know how to research and write original scholarship in each of these areas.

In COMM 750: Digital Media Production, students learn how to integrate storytelling techniques with audio and visual production skills. At the end of the semester, students will be proficient in creating professional videos and podcasts.

What advice would you give to your future online students?

My advice to online students is to select courses that spark your interest and to get to know your instructor and classmates to get the most out of class. Most importantly, ask questions when you are uncertain about the course content.
