Dr. Megan Parietti, Associate Professor

In my classes, I want students to be able to make informed decisions while working in the sport context. I want them to consider the human element of making decisions. How does sport impact people around the world?

  • B.S. in Sport Management – Bowling Green State University, 2007

Career Highlights:

I have had the chance to work with student-athlete support services offices at two universities as well as spend time working with several other sport organizations before I started my Ph.D. program.

I now do research on the lived experiences of student-athletes at the collegiate level. I have looked mostly at parental influence and involvement, academics, and how student-athletes are viewed on college campuses.

  • What do you want your students to take away from class?

    I want students to be able to make informed decisions while working in the sport context. This includes understanding existing research and how to do their own studies to learn about their different constituencies. It also includes considering the human element of making decisions. How does sport impact people around the world? In the end students should be able to critically consider their choices.

  • Why did you start teaching?

    I wanted to help students build a strong foundation for their chosen career. I also wanted to help people see the world from different viewpoints so they can be better citizens of the world.

  • What advice would you give to your future online students?

    Do not hesitate to ask your professor questions. Online, it can be more of a challenge to connect, but never forget we are here to help you learn. We can do that best when we know where you are unsure.

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

    "The Sport Gene: Inside the Science of Extraordinary Athletic Performance" by David Epstein

  • Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students might not know about you.

    I have two daughters and we love to spend time outside.
