For unconditional admission into the M.S. in Sport Management online program, you must hold a bachelor’s degree and provide transcripts from all institutions previously attended as well as meet the requirements below.

Admission Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Official transcripts
  • No GMAT required

Online M.S. in Sport Management admission requirements (based on undergraduate GPA)

  • GPA of 2.75 and above – Students must submit a statement of purpose.
  • GPA below 2.75
    • Students must submit:
      • Three letters of recommendation
      • A statement of purpose highlighting compelling industry experience and relevant undergraduate course work.
      • A resume verifying work experience.
  • GMAT scores are not required for admission.
  • For unconditional admission you must hold a bachelor’s degree in sport management or business and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Applicants who do not have this background may be admitted following the admission requirements below.

The M.S. in Sport Management online curriculum is comprised of 33 credit hours, including 21 credit hours of core courses, six credit hours of tier 1 courses, and six credit hours of tier 2 courses.

You must take the following courses. Students can choose to take either HESM 701 or HESM 702. All other core courses are required.

Analyzes research in the sport management field to help solve issues within the sport industry. Introduces different methods for conducting and analyzing research. Examines how research articles are organized to assist in both reading and conducting research. Discusses practical applications of research.

Explores the managerial activities essential to amateur sports administration. Examines the structure and function of amateur sport organizations and how individual sport organizations fit into the greater sport industry. Focuses on high school and intercollegiate athletics.

Explores the managerial activities essential to governance and policy development in professional sport and reviews the structure and function of these organizations. Demonstrates where the power lies in an organization or industry segment and how individual sport organizations fit into the greater sport industry.

Examines sport law as it applies to sport managers by identifying liability of situations in the supervision, management and conduct of sport. Introduces how to design and develop strategies for limiting liability including constitutional law, negligence, contract, and employment law.

Activities include studying basic fundamentals and completing various exercises designed to give hands-on experiences in the areas of social media, media relations and public relations in the context of sport organizations.
